System components

Gatekeeper is a multifactor system with a risk engine. It has a web portal, which generates reports, and has an API and configuration controls.

You do not need to use all features. When you engage with Nuance, the needed features become apparent, and you can ignore the unneeded pieces. Your Nuance representative is the best source of information about features that are most useful to you.

Overview of available components

The following table describes available components:

Overview of components
Component Description
Multifactor Layers of individual authentication techniques where each technique produces a risk score
Risk engine Produces results for each factor along with accumulated results for all factors
Authorization Uses role-base authorization to control users, groups of users, and service accounts
Web portal Interface for managing access to applications, for example creating accounts for fraud analysts
Reports Summaries of security performance
API Programmatic access to security and biometrics functions
Configuration Runtime controls (access is typically limited to Nuance personnel)

Example: Deployment-based configuration

Your deployment environment determines who does the configuration:

  • Cloud deployments: When you access Gatekeeper in the cloud, Nuance provides the environment. You perform little or no configuration.
  • Self-hosted deployments: When you install Gatekeeper on your own servers, you configure scopes, permissions, roles, and other parameters.

Example: Solution-based configuration

Your solution environment determines if you need the API for writing code:

  • The API is generally not needed for customer contact centers. Instead, Nuance provide connectors (such as your CTI, Computer Telephony Interface) to communicate with Gatekeeper through the Media Manager. The result is end-to-end solutions without writing code.
  • IVR and digital applications usually require the API for integration and control of Gatekeeper features. For example, if you build a digital application for users to authenticate through mobile phones.
